Introduction to Sports Betting part 2

In the last article I explained a little about the basics of betting on sports. In this article we will continue explaining some terms that may be confusing to new gamblers. We already know a few things about futures, props, odds, lines and point spreads. The next term you will find at the time of making a bet is straight bet. When you make a straight bet you basically are betting on a single team, person, horse etc. This is the most common bet and the one that I always recommend. For example if you’re going to bet on a NBA game and you want to bet on a team, the wager you make to that team is call a straight bet. Is pretty simple and the most secure bet if that word can apply to gambling.

There other types of bets that you may find quite confusing. You will find the term parlay to be mentioned a lot. A parlay is a combination of bets that you have to select the winner on all of them. For example let’s suppose that there is a UFC card and I want to make a parlay of different fights. I choose the fights that I will make the parlay and for to win the bet, all my selections have to win. If I choose 4 fights and I fail 1, I lose the bets. That is a more risky bet but obviously if you win the earnings will bigger because the parlay increases the value of the odds. I don’t usually recommend parlays to new gamblers because is kind of a long shot and it must be use on some cases. Sure there is sometimes where we want to make smaller bets for fun and parlays can be easily filling that roll. Another term you may encounter is teaser. A teaser is some special type of parlays where you adjust the point spread or odds of each of the components of the parlay. When you do this you will obviously lower the potential earnings of a parlay. For examples, suppose that you’re making a bet on a teaser and there 2 NBA games. The teaser may change the current point spread on one of the team. So that will increase your chances of winning the parlay but will reduce the chance of earning big.

There are other types of bet that I will discuss on another article. For new gamblers is better to stay on the basics because if you experiment too much you can end losing a lot of money. Of course there are gamblers that will bet for the only purpose of having fun and who doesn’t but you can have fun making a few straight bet and parlay on a UFC card or NBA night (just for example). One time I want to add is that when you gamble to risk money and with riskier bets you will earn more money and with safer bets you win less money. It’s just a matter of tastes and we will discuss a lot more on the next articles.
